No one can be expected to understand § 2-207 of the Uniform Commercial Code when you’re under the weather—these resources can help when you’re not feeling well.
Gyms
The Wilson Recreation Center, located on West Campus, is the newest and nicest gym. It contains basketball and tennis courts, aerobic exercise machines, a weight room, a swimming pool, saunas, a juice bar, and other multipurpose rooms.
The Brodie Recreation Center, located on East Campus, is smaller and older—and for that reason, usually less busy. It may not have a sauna and a juice bar, but it has all of the machines, pools, courts, and space needed to work up a sweat.
Entering either gym requires your DukeCard. For classes and additional information, consult Duke Recreation.
Student Health
Located on the second floor of the Student Wellness Center at 305 Towerview Road, Student Health provides a variety of services, from lab testing and nutrition advice to immunizations and dental care. A small pharmacy in the building is a convenient location for both prescription and OTC medications.
All Duke students are required to maintain adequate health insurance. A variety of Duke-managed plans are available depending on your needs.
To schedule an appointment, call (919) 681-9355.
DuWell
Offered by Student Health, DuWell is a catalogue of programs focused on self-care and preventative maintenance. Meditation and mindfulness courses are taught weekly, and resources regarding addiction and sexual health are always available.
The Murphy-Nimocks Meditation Garden is located alongside the Student Wellness Center, providing a labyrinth and yoga deck for mindfulness exercises. Also available are Oasis rooms on both East and West Campus that offer massage chairs, aromatherapy, and a quiet space to escape from the hustle and bustle when you need to.
Counseling and Psychological Services
The staff of Duke’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) are dedicated, above all, to you. Located on West Campus in the Flowers Building just south of the Chapel, committed psychologists, clinical social workers, and psychiatrists are available for individual consultations, group counseling, and referrals to other specialists.
These resources are as available and open for graduate students as they are for undergraduate students.
No appointment is needed to get started with CAPS, with walk-ins available from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays. However, if you would like to schedule an appointment, call (919) 660-1000.
